Outdoor Pool Season to Make a Splash

YMCA South Australia will open Clare and Gilbert Valleys swimming pools at Riverton and The Valleys Lifestyle Centre, together with Burra outdoor pool in the Goyder municipality, in November.

The 2021-22 summer season is being tipped as a big one at all three venues after last year was interrupted by Government restrictions aimed at controlling the coronavirus pandemic.

Clare community members will splash in on 1 November while Burra will open on 9 November, with the Riverton Memorial Pool scheduled to start welcoming swimmers on 15 November pending the completion of upgrade works being undertaken by Council.

Activities at the seasonal pools will include recreational swimming, VacSwim, school events and education programs, and YMCA South Australia Recreation Manager, Ben Whalan, is looking forward to a successful launch.

“The local communities are passionate about their pools and we’re expecting good early season numbers as we come out the other side of restrictions. Hopefully the weather warms up quickly and we can have a long and successful season at all three facilities,” he said.

Mr Whalan added that season passes would be available and events were planned at all pools with details to be announced soon. He also said casual work positions were available at the venues.

“We provide employment for young local people across the region and find that their enthusiasm helps create a positive and fun environment at the pools. I encourage local young people looking for casual employment to apply as early as possible.”
